The Program
How long is the Retreat?
The NYC Trip and Legacy Retreat run approximately from one week to ten days.
The Reishit Retreat runs approximately three to five weeks.

When do these Retreats run?
They generally run during college winter and summer break. Check the Dates tab for more details.

What are the accommodations like?
Men are hosted in state-of-the-art facilities on the Ohr Somayach campus. Women are housed at upscale locations within close proximity to the campus. Everyone has access to swimming, basketball, local hiking trails and of course to all of our exciting trips throughout the Retreat.

Are meals provided?
All delicious meals are prepared daily by our very own Chef, who incorporates both traditional old-world recipes and contemporary Italian and Tex-Mex cuisine. Additionally, we try to accommodate special dietary needs as best as possible.

How many years has Legacy been organizing Retreats?
We began running these Retreats over a decade ago, when the original NYC trip was conceived. With great success we continue to run the NYC trip and other Retreats geared to participants of all levels and backgrounds.

Do I need a certain level of background in Judaism to attend?
Not at all! Legacy Retreats is geared towards young adults from a variety of backgrounds in Judaism who want to learn more about their heritage. It has been our experience that participants with very limited knowledge, as well as those who have already had an initial exposure to Judaism and are searching for more, have found the Retreat to be empowering, stimulating and relevant. We offer three levels of Retreats to accommodate the entire spectrum of interest and knowledge.

What age groups participate in the Retreat?
Legacy Retreats participants are comprised of college students, graduate students and young professionals.

Can I come for part of the Retreat?
We encourage participants to enroll for the full Retreat. Sometimes exceptions are made for special circumstances, however scholarship subsidies may not be available for part-time enrollees.

The total cost for the program, includes room and board and all trips for the Retreat.
The standard cost of the 8-day Retreat is $599.
Scholarship subsidies can vary from a $200 discount to a $99 Special Rate.
These vary depending on program sponsorship and individual need.

What if I cannot afford the cost of the Retreat? Can I apply for a scholarship?
A limited number of need-based scholarships are available. Once you have filled out an application for the Retreat please contact us to discuss the options available.

Do I pay for my flight? What if I cannot afford the cost of the airfare?
Travel is not included in the price. You need to arrange your own airfare to attend the Retreat. Limited transportation scholarships are available to eligible applicants.

Why is my program so affordable?
We are able to charge a reduced price of $99.00 on some retreats due to the generosity of various charitable foundations, the NY Jewish Federation and community philanthropists. Their donations enable us to reduce the cost of the program to all participants.
